I am an urbanist, residency organizer, and gong-player. My heart is in experimental & participatory urban planning, intentional communities & other forms of human gatherings, spatial theory, developing new inclusive tools through AI, and durational gong baths. My background is in architecture, heritage and urban sociology. From 2014 to 2020 I co-founded METASITU, an art studio based in Kyiv devoted to developing artistic methods in participatory planning and new spatial pedagogies around urban degrowth in postindustrial shrinking towns through our main initiative, The Degrowth Institute. In 2020 I relocated to Bangkok, where I taught spatial design at Chulalongkorn University. I have continued working organizing artistic and urbanism residencies - most recently in Slavutych/Chernobyl (2021) and Encuentros Nave in Santiago (2021-2022). I am now working on a project to develop an inclusive tool for participatory planning in cities in the High Arctic.
AtroCITY is more than just a tool to destroy cities - it's a powerful way to reflect on the current state of urban planning. Using irony to make a point, AtroCITY highlights the wrongdoings of the present, exposing the reality that our cities are often more car-centric and less community-oriented than they should be. By playing the role of an evil urban planner, AtroCITY sheds light on the atrocious results of poor urban planning, creating a thought-provoking experience that challenges our perceptions of what a livable city should be, reflecting on the nuances and complexities cities require to thrive. Through this experience, we can begin to recognize the importance of community-oriented planning and take action to create cities that prioritize people over cars.
