Rather than acting as a chatbot, Motif identifies the abstract mechanism behind a topic and reveals how the same structure appears across entirely different disciplines. It answers the question: *"What is fundamentally happening here, and where else does this same mechanism exist?"* The platform guides users through a three-stage exploration pipeline: extracting core mechanisms from a concept, discovering cross-domain occurrences of those mechanisms, and generating structured analogies that explain both the similarities and the limitations of each comparison. Every AI-generated response is schema-validated, confidence-scored, and accompanied by an explanation of where the analogy breaks down, ensuring transparent and reliable outputs. Built with a modular FastAPI backend and a React frontend, Motif emphasizes provider-agnostic AI through a unified LLM interface, making it easy to switch between supported language model providers without changing business logic. Reusable knowledge is cached to improve performance and reduce redundant model calls, while a card-based interface encourages exploration through progressive disclosure rather than conversation. The architecture is designed for extensibility, enabling future integration with embeddings, symbolic reasoning, or knowledge graphs while preserving the same user experience.
