LafazAI is an AI-powered pronunciation coach that solves a problem every language learner faces: some sounds in a target language simply don't exist in their native language. For example, the Arabic letter ث represents /θ/, the same sound as English "th" in "think" — a sound with no equivalent in Indonesian, often mispronounced as "tink" or "sink." LafazAI bridges this gap. A user provides their native language, the language they're learning, and the specific sound or word they struggle with. An LLM, running through Fireworks AI on AMD-hosted infrastructure, analyzes the sound and returns its IPA symbol, the closest equivalent (or explicit note that none exists) in the learner's native language, concrete mouth and tongue positioning instructions, example words, and one practical drill. The entire pipeline runs inside an AMD Developer Cloud Jupyter notebook, using ROCm 7.2 and PyTorch 2.9, with inference served through Fireworks AI's minimax-m3 model on AMD-hosted infrastructure — demonstrating a real, working use of AMD's AI stack from environment to output. LafazAI is built for language learners, immigrants and expats building confidence in a new country, students preparing for language proficiency exams, and travelers who want to be understood. Future directions include audio-based pronunciation scoring and expanded language pair coverage.
