FinGuard is a smart AI-powered finance assistant designed to help individuals, especially students and low-income users, manage their expenses effectively. The app allows users to add daily expenses, categorize them, and instantly see spending summaries with visualizations like pie charts. It also provides intelligent saving tips by analyzing overspending trends, helping users make better financial decisions. Built with Streamlit, Pandas, and AI integration, FinGuard ensures a simple and user-friendly interface. Future improvements include CSV export, monthly filters, and secure login. This project demonstrates how AI can support financial literacy and empower people to take control of their money.
Category tags:"Starting with the presentation video, I strongly recommend always testing the video before submission. The audio issues made it difficult to understand your explanation, which significantly reduced the effectiveness of the presentation. The idea of a budget app is solid, though not particularly original. What’s less clear is how AI meaningfully enhances the product. If the AI’s only contribution is suggesting “reduce X expense by Y%,” then the value proposition is weak. Users could achieve the same (and often better) insights by simply inputting their expenses into ChatGPT, Gemini, or any large-company LLM. This raises the question of why a user would choose your app over established alternatives. Another concern is that much of the demo appears static and hardcoded, rather than functioning as a dynamic application. Combined with the fact that this is the product’s state after more than a year of work/research, it suggests limited progress. Additionally, if development started before the hackathon timeframe, that raises eligibility issues."
