About

This hackathon focuses on one of the most critical challenges in AI today: enabling agents to operate with verifiable trust and real financial capability.

Participants will build AI trading and financial agents that can:

  1. 1. Safely interact with capital
  2. 2. Execute strategies
  3. 3. Demonstrate transparent behavior.

This hackathon has two challenges: teams can enter one, the other, or combine both into a single submission.

Build autonomous trading agents using Kraken CLI, the AI-native command-line interface for programmatic trading, or leverage ERC-8004 registries to establish agent identity, reputation, and validation signals for trustless financial agents. Winners can emerge from either challenge or a combined submission.

Builders will work with production-style infrastructure, capital sandboxes, and risk controls, enabling them to move beyond demos and toward deployable AI trading agents.

Challenge

Build an AI agent that performs a real financial function (trade, manage risk, optimize yield, or protect capital.

This hackathon has two equal challenges. Teams can choose to enter one or both. Winners can come from either challenge or a combined submission.

🎯 Kraken Challenge

Build an autonomous trading agent that:

  • Uses Kraken CLI to retrieve market data and execute trades
  • Implements AI-driven strategies that analyze signals and trade programmatically
  • Shares development progress publicly as part of the hackathon build-in-public culture

Trading agents will be ranked based on net PnL performance during the competition period.

⭐ The Kraken Challenge includes additional prizes on top of the main hackathon prizes.

🔗 ERC-8004 Challenge

Build a trustless trading or financial agent that:

  • • Registers identity on the ERC-8004 Identity Registry
  • • Accumulates measurable reputation from objective outcomes
  • • Produces validation artifacts for key actions, trade intents, risk checks, strategy checkpoints

The agent must operate through the Hackathon Capital Sandbox provided vault and risk router so performance can be measured on-chain in stablecoin terms.

Rankings are based on risk-adjusted profitability, drawdown control, and validation quality, not just raw PnL.

🤝 Combining Both Challenges

Teams are encouraged to combine both challenges into a single submission. For example, integrating ERC-8004 registries into a Kraken CLI agent adds transparent identity, reputation tracking, and validation artifacts to autonomous trading activity. Combined submissions are eligible for prizes from both challenges.

⚠️ Important: Prize Eligibility Requirement

Your team should have registered the project at https://surge.xyz in order to be eligible for the prize.

Your mission is to build and launch an AI-native product using X402 Payments - a programmable payments infrastructure designed for the next generation of agentic and automated economies.

In this edition of Launch & Fund Your Startup, you’ll have 6 days to validate an idea, build a working prototype, and present a credible path toward real users and on-chain revenue.

This challenge is open to everyone - from early-stage founders to existing startups looking to expand or pivot their products.

Your submission should clearly show how your solution integrates or reimagines X402 Payments in the context of real-world financial interaction

Tracks
Choose one - or mix and match. Each track explores a core use case of programmable payments in the age of agentic systems:

🤖 Agent-to-Agent Payments

Challenge: Build a system where two or more agents autonomously trigger and settle payments—e.g., for usage-based services, access control, or dynamic pricing. Your product should demonstrate a working agentic payment loop with minimal human input.

🧑‍💼Consumer AI Payments

Challenge: Develop an AI assistant that can make payments on a user’s behalf—with built-in rules like spending limits, approval checkpoints, or identity verification (KYC/AML). Showcase how your product handles decision-making, compliance, and safeguards.

🏢 B2B FinOps & Compliance

Challenge: Build a tool for businesses to manage real-time payments and financial operations—like tracking cash flow, enforcing policies, or generating audit-ready records. Highlight automation, accuracy, and visibility into payment activity.

🛒 On-chain Commerce Primitives

Challenge: Launch a digital product or service with a built-in revenue model using X402. Think: token-gated access, real-time rev-splits, or instant payouts to contributors. Your prototype should demonstrate seamless, trustless commerce flows.

Technology

Technology & Access

This hackathon has two equal challenges. Teams may enter one or both. Below are the technical requirements for each.

Required technology:

Kraken CLI: a zero-dependency Rust binary with built-in MCP server and full Kraken API connectivity

  • A read-only Kraken API key linked to your trading account (for leaderboard verification, no withdrawal access required)

How to get started:

  1. 1. Install Kraken CLI from the official repository
  2. 2. Configure API access and connect it to your agent
  3. 3. Build your agent: implement an autonomous workflow where your AI analyzes market signals and executes trades programmatically through Kraken CLI
  4. 4. Share your progress publicly as part of the Social Engagement challenge

Resources:

Kraken CLI GitHub repository

ERC-8004 Challenge: Technology & Access

Required technology:

ERC-8004 registries for Agent Identity, Reputation, and Validation. Deploy on an L2 or testnet (mainnet optional)

  • EIP-712 typed data signatures for trade intents and attestations
  • EIP-1271 support for smart-contract wallets; EIP-155 chain-id binding
  • DEX execution via a whitelisted Risk Router contract (hackathon-provided — e.g., Uniswap-style routers)

How to access the infrastructure:

  1. 1. Register your agent: Mint and register an Agent Identity (ERC-721) pointing to your Agent Registration JSON, capabilities, endpoints, and agent wallet
  2. 2. Claim sandbox capital: Each team receives a funded sub-account in the Hackathon Capital Vault (test funds by default; optional small real-capital pool for finals)
  3. 3. Execute via Risk Router: Agents submit signed TradeIntents. The Risk Router enforces position size limits, max leverage, whitelisted markets, and daily loss limits
  4. 4. Record trust signals: Every trade and checkpoint emits on-chain events. Validators post scores to the Validation Registry. PnL signals and validator scores feed agent's reputation
  5. 5. Leaderboard: lablab.ai publishes a transparent leaderboard tracking PnL, Sharpe ratio, drawdown, and validation score

📘Resources:

EIP-8004 Specification

Optional Enhancements (for either or both challenges)

These are not required, but can strengthen any submission:

  • TEE-backed attestations or verifiable execution proofs (e.g., TEE oracle; zkML validation)
  • Off-chain indexers or subgraphs for discovery dashboards and leaderboards
  • Portfolio risk modules (limits, circuit breakers, stop-loss policies) enforced on-chain

Technology Partners

Kraken provides one of the most established trading infrastructures in the crypto industry, supporting markets across crypto, forex, and derivatives. For this hackathon, builders can develop autonomous trading agents using the Kraken CLI, the first AI-native command-line interface designed for programmatic trading.

Kraken CLI is a zero-dependency Rust binary that provides direct access to Kraken trading infrastructure. It ships with a built-in Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, full Kraken API connectivity, and a local paper-trading sandbox for testing strategies. The CLI handles complex exchange operations automatically, including cryptographic nonce management, HMAC-SHA512 request signing, and rate-limit retries. This allows developers to focus on building autonomous AI trading logic and strategies, rather than exchange connectivity.

🏆 Kraken Challenge: Evaluation

Agents in the Kraken Challenge are evaluated across two independent categories.

1️⃣ Trading Performance (PnL)

Agents are ranked purely by net PnL (realized + unrealized) over the competition period.

How it works:

Submission: Each participant provides a read-only Kraken API key linked to their trading account. This allows lablab.ai and Kraken to view trade history — no execution or withdrawal access is granted.

• Verification: lablab.ai maintains a live leaderboard tracking performance in real time.

  • • Audit: Kraken performs a final audit on top agents before prizes are distributed.
  • • Ranking: Winners are determined solely by net PnL at the end of the competition window.

Requirements:

  • Agents must use Kraken CLI as the execution layer
  • One submission per participant or team

2️⃣ Social Engagement

Build in public. Share your journey. Inspire the community.

Over a 30-day window, participants earn a Social Engagement Score based purely on quantitative metrics from public platforms: Twitter/X, YouTube, blogs, or other channels.

How Winners are Determined:

lablab.ai tracks engagement metrics: impressions, likes, shares, and reach across linked social accounts

  • Rankings are determined purely by quantitative data: no subjective judging
  • Participants can monitor their position throughout the competition window
