CodeQuest Bob is a gamified developer onboarding and growth platform built for the IBM Bob Hackathon. It helps new contributors, junior developers, career switchers, and engineers joining an unfamiliar codebase move from “I opened the repository” to “I am ready to submit a safe first PR.” The product starts with repository intake and analysis. IBM Bob is used as the repository-aware development partner to understand structure, identify entry points, plan quests, refine implementation, and export session reports for review. The app then converts that context into a guided four-stage journey: Setup, Explore, Improve, and First PR. CodeQuest Bob includes several product features designed around real developer workflows. Repository Orbit Map gives contributors a spatial way to understand the onboarding path. Quest Detail turns each stage into concrete objectives, progress tracking, XP, and completion states. Skill Boost Radar recommends learning resources based on the current quest context, with IBM Granite and Watson NLU supporting recommendation reasoning and keyword signals. Bob Briefing adds an audio learning layer with Watson Text to Speech and Speech to Text, while keeping written fallbacks available. First PR Package generates a contribution-ready bundle: starter task, target files, commands, PR checklist, description notes, and reviewer guidance. Developer Passport records XP, quest badges, saved Skill Boosts, AI analysis activity, and growth history. The business value is simple: maintainers spend less time repeating onboarding guidance, and new contributors gain a clearer path to meaningful contribution. CodeQuest Bob demonstrates how IBM Bob can turn repository understanding into practical action, reduce repetitive developer onboarding work, and help builders deliver with more confidence.
