Asim Shafi is a final-year MBBS student at Swat Medical College, Khyber Medical University, and founder/CEO of Mate Technologies Inc., an AI healthcare startup based in Swat Valley, KPK, Pakistan. He also serves as VP KPK at SYNCH Pakistan. His work began personally: after a family member, a retired physician, suffered a stroke, Asim built StrokeMate, an AI rehabilitation platform using MediaPipe pose estimation, Supabase, and the Claude API to track recovery and generate clinical insights. This became the anchor of a broader ecosystem including RuralMate OS (Urdu/Pashto AI triage for rural health workers, piloted with Swat's DHO), DermaMate AI, LinguaMate, DiagnosMate, TreatMate, and MedMate AI. Alongside product work, Asim has completed two PROSPERO-registered systematic reviews ā on agentic AI for clinical decision support and ML for sepsis prediction in LMICs ā and self-studies AI/ML via Stanford, IBM, and Imperial College coursework. He's preparing StrokeMate for the Built with Claude: Life Sciences hackathon, adding ROM/symmetry scoring and a clinician dashboard. Post-MBBS, he plans a house job, then full-time focus on Mate Technologies, pursuing the LUMS Diploma in Digital Health and eventually an Oxford MSc. Based in Swat Valley, Asim builds AI tools grounded in direct clinical experience for patients often overlooked by digital health innovation.
