Stack Archaeologist is a creative developer tool that solves a real and painful problem: every organization has a graveyard of abandoned repositories with no context, no docs, and no original developers left to explain them. Built entirely using IBM Bob IDE as the AI development partner, Stack Archaeologist takes any public GitHub repository URL and performs a deep archaeological excavation of its history and structure. The tool works in four stages. First, it clones the repository and performs comprehensive git analysis — extracting commit history, contributor patterns, branch structure, file extensions, dependency files, warning commit patterns (bug fixes, TODOs, WIPs, reverts), and calculates how long the project has been abandoned. Second, it feeds this structured data into IBM Bob AI to generate four intelligent report sections: an Architecture Map that identifies what the project does and how it is structured; a Cause of Death analysis written in dramatic archaeological style explaining why the project was likely abandoned; a Salvageable Components assessment identifying which parts of the codebase are worth preserving; and a Revival Plan with effort estimates, team size recommendations, risk assessment, and priority task ordering. Third, all of this is compiled into a beautiful, fully self-contained HTML report with a modern dark UI using an indigo and cyan color scheme — no external dependencies, works offline. Finally, the landing page shows a KPI summary — days abandoned, total commits, severity level, and tech stack detected — before the user opens the full report. The entire application was designed and built using IBM Bob IDE, demonstrating how Bob can accelerate complex full-stack development from idea to working product in under 48 hours. Bob assisted with architecture planning, service implementation, UI design, debugging, and code review throughout the development process. Tech stack: Python, FastAPI, GitPython, IBM Bob IDE, HTML/CSS.
